Admissions: Overview

The M.Ed. Program in Visual Impairment will recommend for admission those applicants who present evidence of their ability to do graduate work with distinction. Such evidence will normally include:

  1.  A Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field such as rehabilitation counseling, sociology, or psychology
  2. A minimum of 2 years of experience in the visual impairment/blindness field, related field, or demonstrates knowledge of the field of visual impairment and blindness.
  3. A minimum GPA of 3.0 for undergraduate work and a minimum GPA of 3.5 for graduate work as shown on official university transcripts.
  4. Two letters of recommendation submitted by persons who are knowledgeable about teaching individuals with special needs, who have worked closely with the applicant, and who have direct knowledge of the applicant’s teaching skills.
  5. A writing sample indicating the applicant’s ability to write in a clear, concise, and professional manner. The writing sample will be taken from the applicant's statements of intent and interest from the Graduate Application.  The School of Education’s mission is to prepare educators for diverse cultural contexts. Please ensure that your writing sample demonstrates how you and your work fit into such a description. Your writing sample should also exemplify the experiences or values in your life that match this philosophy.
  6. A personal interview with members of the Visual Impairment Training Program faculty is required.
