Welcome
We would like to welcome all new and returning students, potential students, and our many guests to our website.
This website is designed to provide both current and prospective students with course schedules, registration instructions, syllabi, contact information and office hours, and general program requirements. For the prospective student the site has information on applying to the University, the School of Education, and the VITP, as well as providing the information needed to make a decision as to whether the VITP is right for them.
In honor of the Ten Year Anniversary of the VITP, we have totally redesigned our website! Our new look is FULLY ACCESSIBLE, meeting, and well-exceeding, the standards of all 3 Priority Levels (our old design met one Priority Level, all that is required under ADA guidelines). We hope that this new design helps to make the experience for EVERYONE more enjoyable and informative.

Classes Via Teleclassroom - If you are interested in taking classes that we may offer in upcoming semesters via the North Carolina Information Highway, we need to hear from you well before the start of the semester in which the class(es) will be offered. Students interested in such offerings for the Fall 2008 Semester must let us know no later than March 30, 2008. There will be no exceptions to this deadline. Teacher Licensure Fast Track - Are you interested in adding Visual Impairments to your existing teaching certificate? Are you needing 1 or 2 classes to finish your coursework for licensure? Are you looking for an alternative to traditional college courses? Our Fast Track Program may be for you. 11.10.07 More Information....
We Have Moved! - After 4 wonderful years in the South Building, the VITP has moved to more spacious accomodations in Lineberry Hall. The move consolodates all our operations on the GMS Campus in one location, and on one floor. Faculty and staff offices, our media center, and plenty of space for additional classes are now housed on the 2nd (top) floor of Lineberry. The Teleclassroom, with upgraded equipment and furniture, will move from the 1st (main) floor, joining us in the Spring Semester. We are excited about the move, and grateful to GMS for seeing the continued value the VITP brings to the entire vision field. 11.10.2007
Grant Opportunity - The Culturally Responsive Teachers for Exceptional Children (CRT) scholarship/loan program supports graduate students in the master's degree program in special education with an add-on license in elementary, middle or secondary education. Students receive funds to cover tuition, fees, books, and professional development. Students repay the scholarship/loan by working in special education two years for every year (21 hours) that is funded.
Information and application materials on the CRT grant can be obtained from Dr. Ellen Bacon at ebacon@nccu.edu or (919) 530-5174. Applicants should contact Vonda Belle for information on applying to the graduate program at NCCU at vbelle@nccu.edu.
Attention Teacher of the Visually Impaired Candidates - We have the current NCDPI Competencies for Teachers of the Visually Impaired. TVI Candidates must show completion of these standards to be eligible for licensure- we strongly encourage all students to download a copy for your reference. Permanent

Registration & Grading Clarification - As with many universities, NCCU has several registration systems (depending on the course offered, and how it is delivered to the student). Students may need to register through University College if the course is identified as an "01D" distance education offering, or they may need to register through the University's general registration system for all other classes. Additionally, Blackboard "registration" may be required for courses using that method of delivery (which in itself does NOT indicate distance education), as the VITP does for many of its classes. Registration via the University's two registration systems does not automatically "enroll" one for Blackboard - Blackboard "enrollment" simply allows access to Blackboard. Likewise, being "enrolled" in Blackboard does not indicate registration at the University-level - if credit or a grade is required, registration MUST go though one of the University's two systems.
Grading for ANY class is official ONLY by means of the University's systems, NOT within Blackboard (a grade posted within Blackboard does not mean the grade has been posted at the University level, and a grade NOT posted within Blackboard does not mean a grade has, or has not, been posted at the University level). Blackboard is a delivery method for a course, and is completely separate (at this time) from the official University systems. If you have any questions, please contact your Faculty Advisor. Permanent
Courses Offered via Distance Ed - We have updated our schedule of courses offered through University College (both online, and selected teleclassroom offerings). Also included are detailed instructions on registering through University College.
Attention Out-of-State Students - You now may be eligible for in-state tuition via the Academic Common Market (ACM). Further information can be found under Admissions > Scholarships & Aid
ACVREP Establishes New Certification Eligibility Criteria - The Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP) established new certification criteria effective July 1, 2003. These criteria affect many VITP students, so we encourage you to download the appropriate documents for your specific area. (all documents are in Word format)
