Certification-Only in Orientation and Mobility
The Certification-Only in Orientation and Mobility is designed to provide an individualized program of instruction to enable a person with a degree in a related field to obtain certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist. Specific program plans are established on an individual basis, with requisite courses determined by previous degree(s) earned and prior university coursework.
Pre-Requisite: Earned degree or licensure in a related field
Foundation Courses:
- EDEC 5620 - Introduction to Exceptional Children (3) or equivalent
- EDEC 5671 - Assessment in Special Education (3) or equivalent
- EDEC 5501 - Introduction to Visual Impairments (3)
- EDEC 5502 - Introduction to Contracted Braille Code (1)
- EDEC 5601 - Structure and Function of the Eye (3)
Methods in Orientation and Mobility:
- EDEC 5603 - Orientation & Mobility for the Classroom Teacher (3)
- EDEC 5605 - Sensory Motor Development (3)
- EDEC 5606 - Orientation & Mobility Praxis I (3) Instructor permission required
- EDEC 5607 - Orientation & Mobility Praxis II (3) Instructor permission required
- EDEC 5608 - Orientation & Mobility for Special Populations (3)
- EDEC 5697 - Practicum in Special Education: Orientation & Mobility (3)
